Pergola Build with Polycarbonate Roof

Project Story
The Challenge
A Richardson homeowner wanted to reclaim his backyard — a covered outdoor living space where he and his wife could entertain, relax, and actually use the patio year-round without worrying about Texas heat, glare, or the occasional downpour shutting them down.
The Solution
We designed and built a custom cedar pergola with a tinted polycarbonate roof system. The cedar framing was selected for its natural beauty, durability, and resistance to the elements — it ages well in DFW's climate without looking like it gave up. The polycarbonate roof panels were installed with a slight pitch for drainage and tinted to cut UV exposure and direct sunlight, keeping the space comfortable even in peak summer. The result is a structure that's open and airy but fully protected from rain and sun.
The Result
The clients now have a true outdoor living room — usable in the summer heat, through spring storms, and well into the fall. The tinted roof diffuses light naturally so it never feels like sitting under a greenhouse, and the cedar framing adds a warmth that painted lumber or aluminum just can't match. It's one of those jobs where the client's wife sends a photo a week later of them having coffee outside at 9am in July.
