Shower Pan Leak Repair

Project Story
The Challenge
A homeowner called concerned about water showing up where it shouldn't — coming through from upstairs. What looked like a simple leak turned into a full shower pan failure that had been quietly doing damage behind the tile.
The Solution
After tracing the source, we confirmed the upstairs bathroom shower pan was the culprit. We demoed the existing tile and mud bed to get down to the problem, located and sealed the leak at the source, then rebuilt it the right way from the ground up. That meant a fresh mud bed, a Schluter Kerdi waterproof liner system installed over it, and full retile of the shower floor. Kerdi was the right call here — it's a bonded waterproofing membrane that eliminates the guesswork and gives you a system that's actually designed to keep water where it belongs.
The Result
No more leak. More importantly, no more hidden water damage working its way through the floor structure. The shower was rebuilt to a standard that'll outlast the original install by a wide margin. Client got their bathroom back, the downstairs ceiling got to dry out, and we left them with a shower pan that's actually waterproofed — not just tiled and hoped for the best.
